Future Prospects
The department plans to focus on an integrative approach encompassing the various disciplines in organismal biology (Evolutionary Biology, Chemical and Molecular Ecology, Epigenetics, Molecular Biology and Developmental Biology).
Scholarships
DR. D.S. SIDHU MEMORIAL AWARD
Cash award of ₹5,000/ each will be given to a student (admitted under Rural Area category) of M.Sc. Zoology first year semester I and II, who will be on the top of the merit list under the above mentioned category for that particular semester (sponsored by Dr. Raj Uppal, MD a former alumnus of the department).
DR. J.P. SINGH MEMORIAL RESEARCH AWARD
Cash award of ₹10,000/- is given to a registered research scholar of the department every year for conducting exemplary research work. For this award, the researchers are primarily evaluated on the basis of scientific and practical significance of their research (sponsored by Dr. Raj Uppal, MD a former alumnus of the department).
DR. S.S. DHILLON GOLDEN JUBILEE AWARD
Cash award of ₹ 5000/- is given to a best student selected by the faculty from M.Sc. IInd year
(sponsored by Dr. Raj Uppal, MD a former alumnus of the department).
DEPARTMENTAL MERIT SCHOLARSHIP
The departmental merit scholarship ₹500/- per month is granted to a student admitted at first rank in the order of merit. In the subsequent year, it is awarded on the basis of the result of the preceding examination.
DR. HIRA SINGH DEOL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
The scholarship is awarded to a student, who is at number one position on the basis of admission criteria. The amount of scholarship is ₹1000/- per month and the duration of scholarship is two years. If the selected student refuses to accept this scholarship or leaves his/her studies, the same is awarded to the next student in the order of merit.
GOYAL FOUNDATION TOPPER AWARD
Goyal Foundation Topper Award is granted every year to a topper student of Post-graduate courses under the faculties of life Sciences/Physical Sciences and Economics. The award carries a cash prize of ₹4000/.
Dr. Ravinder Pal Kaur Sandhu award
A cash award of Rs. 5000 will be given to a registered female research scholar (belonging to an economically weaker sanction) for a period of three years, (sponsored by Dr. Raj Uppal, MD, former alumnus of the department )
Dr. Tarlok Singh award
A cash award of Rs. 5000 will be given to a registered male research scholar (belonging to an economically weaker sanction) for a period of three years, (sponsored by Dr. Raj Uppal, MD, former alumnus of the department )
